Nashville’s Yellow Freight — one of the only union shops in trucking — shut down operations in August, leaving 30,000 people without work.

The company posts a revenue dip and says the pay levels in the new labor agreement with the Teamsters are higher than it had planned.

The Teamsters called the tentative agreement “historic” and “overwhelmingly lucrative.” It includes, among other benefits, higher wages and air conditioning in delivery trucks.

The last strike occurred more than 25 years ago — before the delivery business exploded. The current contract expires next week.

The last time UPS workers went on strike was 1997. It lasted 15 days, and cost $850 million. 

The employees became the first in the nation to form a union at one of the fast food chain’s restaurants.
