Thousands of Ukrainian truck drivers are stalled at the border in Poland as tensions between the two countries grow.

Nashville’s Yellow Freight — one of the only union shops in trucking — shut down operations in August, leaving 30,000 people without work.

Trucking is an increasingly immigrant-driven industry as U.S.-born drivers retire and demand to move freight remains high.

The key to unfurling domestic supply chains may not be more truck drivers on the road, but getting them in and out of warehouses faster.

Parking and pay are among the biggest frustrations of truck drivers.

Aircraft fighting wildfires are increasing demand, too, but the real problem is a shortage of truck drivers capable of delivering fuel.

“COVID has shown Americans the importance of the trucking profession,” said Darrel Harris, president of Yellow Corp.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics would categorize Steve’s job as “production, transportation, and material moving” along with butchers, sewing machine operators and furniture makers, to name a few. One in 10 workers in the U.S. labor force are in this category.

"There's a lot more going on in the background when it comes to truck loads," one expert says.
