Lawmakers will unveil bipartisan legislation on Thursday that would give federal dollars to overnight parking programs for people living in their vehicles.

“The event parking business was not very great during the pandemic,” says Bruce Rowley. “In fact, it was a complete flatline.”

The cost of street parking for a motorcycle will be about $40 a day. Officials would like to see greater use of public transportation.

Parking charges based on timing or vehicle type, for example, can encourage drivers to consider other forms of transit.

In tight labor market, businesses say parking can be a factor in whether employees stay or go.
