In its quarterly earnings call this week, Home Depot executives said the company has a hypothesis that the nation’s opioid crisis might be contributing to a surge in thefts from its stores. But some observers are skeptical that a rise in Home Depot’s “shrink,” a retailer term for thefts, can be tied to opioids.
