California drivers to pay highest gas tax in the country
The Golden State will surpass Pennsylvania for the dubious title of “highest gas taxes.”

California already has the country’s highest gas prices, but on Monday, it will surpass Pennsylvania for the dubious title of “highest gas taxes.” Starting on July 1, drivers will pay more than 60 cents a gallon in taxes, on top of the base gas price. The increase is part of a transportation funding package state lawmakers passed in 2017. But the higher pump prices probably won’t change how much people drive.
