President Trump’s Justice Department says it will not defend key parts of the Affordable Care Act in a lawsuit. That includes the requirement that people have health insurance and the guarantee that you can get insurance regardless of pre-existing conditions. Some Republican-led states are suing to strike down the entire law after Congress recently repealed a provision that people without health insurance must pay a fine. Several big insurers, including UnitedHealthcare, have already dropped out of Obamacare. So you’d think maybe that insurers wouldn’t mind the administration refusing to defend the law. Not exactly.
