And bad news for eastern gorillas.

Good news for cute animals!

Giant pandas are no longer endangered. The International Union for Conservation of Nature moved the pandas off the endangered list after a 2014 census found over 1,864 of them in the world, up from 1,596 a decade before.

Now for the buzzkill: The group said we should turn our attention to the eastern gorilla, which is almost extinct — one species has lost 77 percent of its population since 1994. CNN notes four of the six great apes are now “critically endangered,” which is two levels more serious than “vulnerable.”
