Amid markets turmoil, Yellen speaks to Congress

The head of the Federal Reserve speaks in public for the first time since interest rates were raised.

Fed Chair Janet Yellen testifies in front of the House Financial Services Committee this morning. It’s the first time she’s appeared in public since the Federal Reserve finally raised interest rates at the end of last year.

A lot has changed since Yellen last spoke in public. The stakes have risen.

“This may well be the most dramatic and pressing set of hearings Chair Yellen is facing since her nomination. because of the of true drama playing out in the real economy,” Mark Hamrick, senior economic analyst at Bankrate.com, said.
