Here are the numbers we're reading and watching for Monday.
62 million
That’s the estimated number of packages the U.S. Postal Service will return post-holiday season. But considering that between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the USPS shipped about 600 million packages, it’s comparatively not as big of a challenge. And as one consultant pointed out, the size of the organization helps, too.
1 cup of coffee
The price of a cup of a joe (roughly $3) is how much Wikipedia is asking its users to donate to the site. Wikipedia aims to keep the site and other related ventures afloat in the 2015-2016 fiscal year with a budget of about $68 million, according to Quartz.
$241 million
That’s how much the USDA said the horticulture industry reported in poinsettia sales last year. Even so, with prices generally dropping for the holiday favorite, being in the poinsettia business is kind of a losing endeavor.
35.8 million
That’s the estimated number of people in modern slavery around the world, according to the Global Slavery Index. And past instances of enslavement still face intense discussion. On Monday, South Korea and Japan resolved the issue of South Korean women who were forced to work in Japanese brothels during World War II, with Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe offering an apology to the 46 surviving women and about $8.3 million to be divided among them.
