Over the last couple of years, P&G has built its business on taking household items and building them into higher-priced, branded blockbusters. But in a post-recession climate, the company has had to rethink its strategy, as consumers moved towards generic products.

In a statement from Shanghai on Friday, Chief Executive Elon Musk said that bringing production to China would cut the cost of the company’s cars there by a third. As the Wall Street Journal writes, a Model S sedan starts at $106,000.

It’s part of a system being tested out across the country called A.B.C., or “accelerated bridge construction.” While it puts crews like Rothwell’s under high pressure, it has also allowed the state to cut a year off the estimated construction time for the project.
