Federal contractors now mandated to receive sick leave

President Obama signed an executive order providing sick days to about 300,000 workers.

On this Labor Day, a last bit of news on the theme of labor.

President Obama signed an executive order on Monday that requires federal contractors to give paid sick leave to their workers — up to seven days a year, or more if they want to grant it. The President has been aggressive about changing workplace policies, starting with rules inside the government.

The new sick leave rules will affect only about 300,000 employees, and won’t go into effect until 2017, the year after the President leaves office.
