TV mines the past for new programming

When it comes to new television programming, what’s old is new again.

The TV industry is in the middle of its annual meet-up with the press out in Beverly Hills. The Television Critics Association Press Tour is where the industry shows off its fall shows, and given all the new streaming content, it’s a lot bigger than it used to be.

Marketplace’s Adriene Hill has been covering this year’s tour. She says one of the major trends in new television is throwback programming — Several new shows are set in the 80s, and others are reboots of old classics like “Coach” and “The Muppets.”

But for a new television show to be a hit, it’s not enough to bank on nostalgia alone.
