The French are eating a lot more hamburgers

One in two sandwiches sold in France is a hamburger. Presumably with French fries.

A statistic that would probably have shocked Julia Child.

Turns out that one out of every two sandwiches sold in France is now a hamburger. Le hamberger, if you want to be precise.

Our friends at Quartz wrote up a study showing that hamburger popularity in France has surged since 2000, and almost a billion of them were sold in that country last year — and mostly at fast food places like McDonald’s.

So go ahead, pulp fiction fans, order a Royal with cheese.

Though technically, they just call ’em a “royale cheese” over there…
