The underground child exchange

A new investigation reveals a network of parents who are offering unwanted children to others via online message boards.

An investigation by Reuters this week showed there is a growing pattern of so-called ‘re-homing’ happening in America. That’s where adoptive parents get rid of unwanted children by offering them up online — often in plain sight on websites like Facebook. Reuters found there are no federal laws restricting the practice of non-legalized adoption, although states may treat it differently.

Megan Twohey, one of the reporters of the investigation, joins Marketplace Tech host Ben Johnson to discuss.
