NFL faces stiff competition from fantasy football

More and more fans are opting to stay at home and engage with fantasy football, and that makes some team owners worry about their bottom lines.

The NFL season opens Thursday night and in addition to recent legal battles with former players over concussions, the league has had another problem–competition from fantasy football leagues. Many fans are spending a lot of time and money on their fantasy teams, rather than stadium tickets, snacks and foam fingers. Scott Minto, director of San Diego State University’s Sports Business MBA Program, talks to Marketplace host David Brancaccio about how the NFL is responding to the growing economic importance of fantasy teams.
