Treasury Secretary Jack Lew has obviously been working on his penmanship.

In a government report released last week, Lew’s usual loopy signature was nowhere to be found. A new, much more legible series of letters had taken its place.

That’s bound to please President Barack Obama, who chose Lew to lead the Treasury Department, but joked about his handwriting after he announced the nomination. One of Lew’s new job requirements will be to put his signature on every U.S. dollar.

“I had never noticed Jack’s signature, and when this was highlighted yesterday in the press, I considered rescinding my offer to appoint him,” said President Obama.

Instead the president urged Lew to makes some adjustments to his John Hancock. “Jack assures me that he is going to work to make at least one letter legible in order not to debase our currency,” the president said.

Leading with a strong ‘J’ and a distinguishable ‘L,’ Lew’s new signature seems to fit the bill.
