NCAA barred Louisville men’s team from supporting women’s team

The 2013 NCAA men's basketball championship team from Louisville were told that going to see Louisville's women's championship game would be "an improper benefit."

This final note today. In which the NCAA — the National Collegiate Athletic Association — reveals itself once again to be a bonehead.

Louisville, as you know, won the mens basketball championship in Atlanta last night. The school’s women play their final tonight in New Orleans. NCAA rules say neither Louisville coach Rick Pitino — who got a $425,000 bonus for the championship win — nor the school could pay for the men’s team to go see the Louisville women.

The NCAA did give a waiver this morning, which came too late, the school said.
