The Federal Trade Commission and European Union are investigating Google over what we called the Great Google Cookie Scare of 2012 in which Google was found to be circumventing a privacy feature on Apple’s Safari browser and allowing third-parties to track you online. Google is no longer doing this, but the FTC wants to figure out if Google violated the terms of a settlement last year in which Google said it wouldn’t misrepresent its privacy practices to users. Over in Europe, the French data protection commission says this Google Cookie Scare of 2012 is now a part of an ongoing investigation into Google’s privacy policy changes.
