Tougher rules on robocalls
But what about RoboCops? I'm scared of them things.
Kind of a busy week for the FCC, actually. Today, the commission is expected to announce a crack down on robocalls. Those are the telemarketing calls you get from robots (the robots are usually young college student robots earning minimum wage. In the break room, this one robot tries to get all his co-workers to come see his band).
There are already rules on these calls but FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski says the FCC gets thousands of complaints that people are getting calls even though they’re on the Do Not Call list. Under the new rules, telemarketers would need to get written (written!) permission before they can make these calls even if you’re NOT on the Do Not Call list. Calls from schools, political campaigns, and non-profits are exempt because they’re considered informational.
