I remember doing a story about Google a few years ago and an analyst saying that YouTube was a real millstone around the neck of the company. Google had paid 1.65 billion dollars for YouTube and hosting all that video bandwidth was incredibly expensive. How could Google POSSIBLY make money on such a thing.
Now we know: VOLUME!
According to Reuters, 4 billion videos are shown daily on YouTube. That’s an increase of 25% from 8 months ago. Not only that, 60 hours of content are uploaded every second. Every second? YES! Wow.
But you know all that from the headline. Here’s some more information: Three billion of those videos are set up to make money through advertising and YouTube is now pulling in $5 billion a year.
And this is all happening before many of the already-announced content content channels and high end programming debuts.
