Brittan’s University of Plymouth has just released a study that looks at the use of technology in relationships. According to the study, 10 percent of 16-24 year-olds say they’ve met someone online and had casual sex. That number jumps to 50 percent when it comes to having simulated sex using a webcam. The BBC spoke to professor Andy Phipen, who sees the results as a possible indicator for more promiscuous teens. “‘If you want to look for anonymous, no strings sex it’s a lot easier to do online than down your local pub.’” The report also brings up possible links between casual sex STDs. It’s not that everyone is going to go out and have casual, unprotected sex, but if the casual part is on the rise, then it stands to reason that the unprotected part could follow.
