Google and Mozilla have come to terms on an extension of a deal to use Google as the default search engine on the Firefox browser. The deal is for three years, terms were not disclosed and we hate to pry. What does this mean for Firefox? The same thing food means for any living thing: it gets to stay alive. Google is responsible for 84% of Mozilla’s revenue.

Why should I care? It means newer and hopefully better versions of Firefox can be built because people can be paid to build them.
For Google, its a continued presence and a beating back of Bing.

It’s also another victory for Google over Microsoft in terms of browsers, in case you’re keeping score at home. This week, Internet Explorer 8 fell into second place in browser popularity behind Google Chrome. Factoring in all versions of IE, it’s still on top.
