Apple has removed an app from its store after CEO Tim Cook received a complaint from Senator Bob Casey (D-Penn.) The app from DriversEd.com let you upload your photo and create a driver’s license from any of the 50 states. You could then send the mocked up license to your email account and from there print it, laminate it, go nuts. “I believe this application poses a threat to public safety and national security,” wrote Casey. “It can be used in a way that allows criminals to create a new identity, steal someone else’s identity, or permit underage youth to purchase alcohol or tobacco illegally. National security systems depend on the trustworthiness of driver’s licenses.”

Of course, the first thing this made me think was that if some app maker was able to get a template for the driver’s licenses, those things must be out there on the web and not all that hard to come by. You find ‘em, you put your pic on ‘em, and you’re getting into bars, Junior, without ever having to deal with creepy guys who charge you a hundred bucks.

And you know what THAT means: a SEVERE jobs shortage in the Creepy Guy industry.
