CTIA, a wireless industry group, is out with its semi-annual report today showing that there are 327.6 million wireless subscribers (CTIA says there are just over 315 million people in the U.S.). It also says wireless data use is growing – up 111 percent from the middle of last year.
All this as the wireless industry caps users’ data use and the number of carriers could get smaller. AT&T and T-Mobile are trying to become one entity, and the Wall Street Journal notes today that Sprint is having an increasing hard time of it.
From the Journal:
“Standard & Poor’s cautioned that the company’s condition could get worse before it gets better and warned it may further downgrade Sprint’s junk-rated debt. Investors continued to flee the company’s stock, sending shares down another 8% on Monday after a 20% drop on Friday.”
