At yesterday’s BUILD conference, Microsoft offered developers a preview of the new – and very catchily named – operating system, Windows 8. (It will replace Windows 7) (Sorry for the technical mumbo-jumbo there). It looks like it will run in two versions: desktop and mobile. The desktop will be a lot like 7 but the mobile will take on the appearance of the Windows Phone experience with big panels on the touch screen. There will be an app store, because there has to be.

Business Insider says Microsoft is making the experience easier on manufacturers: “Microsoft is opening up Windows to most major processors, which means it can run on more devices. In addition to Intel and AMD processors, Windows 8 will also run on ARM processors from Qualcomm and Nvidia. That’s great news for desktop and tablet makers alike.”
