Tuesday, the George Harrison of wireless carriers, Sprint, filed a lawsuit to stop the John Lennon of carriers, AT&T, from buying the Ringo of carriers, T-Mobile USA, in a $39 billion deal. This comes a week after the U.S. Department of Justice filed suit. It’s no surprise – Sprint has said this deal would hurt competition all along.

From the WSJ:
“Sprint seems to be adding an additional suit as insurance” if the government fails to halt the merger, said Christopher Sprigman, a University of Virginia School of Law professor and former counsel in the Justice Department’s antitrust division. “But antitrust law isn’t there to protect Sprint; it’s there to protect the public.”
