This weekend in NYC, the Robot Film Festival will screen several short films all featuring robots. Heather Knight, of Marilyn Robotic and Carnegie Mellon’s Robotic Institute, founded the event with this goal: “to inject a sense of playfulness into traditional science and engineering and explore new frontiers for robotics before the technology is even possible.” In addition to the movies, festival-goers will have a chance to attend the Bocksters, an Oscars-like awards ceremony complete with 3D-printed robot statues in categories such as Best Robot Actor, Most Uncanny, and Best Robot Dance.

At the festival’s conclusion, HAL 9000 will kill all humans.
