This final note today, from the Marketplace Desk of I really don’t think they get the idea here, Memorial Day edition.
There’s going to be a parade Monday on Shelter Island, out off the tip of Long Island in New York. Town organizers want to hang American flags on the power poles on streets through town. Which is, I thought, par for the course in a lot of places.
Not, though, when those poles are owned by the Long Island Power Authority. The power company’s charging $23 a flag for the privilege. It says it’s got no choice under state law.
