Sony’s hacked-to-bits gaming network is lurching back to life in spots around the world as the company is satisfied with the security measures now in place. One country that is not yet allowing the network to return: Sony’s home country of Japan. The issue once again is security.

“As of May 13, Sony was incomplete in exercising measures that they said they will do on the May 1 press conference,” Kazushige Nobutani, Japan’s director of media and content in the country’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry told Dow Jones. The official didn’t comment on which Sony’s “measures” were lacking.

Obviously, Sony has a long way to go to restore full confidence in the network but I don’t think it’s dead yet. Gamers love to game and it will take more than just this hack to get them to stop. The big question is what this means down the road as new versions of Xbox and Wii start to show up. If Sony has a second rate console to go with a hacky network, we could see them fade from gaming. Remember, this is the company that brought you the betamax.
