Mozilla is refusing to comply with a Department of Homeland Security demand to remove a Firefox browser extension called Mafiaafire Redirector. The extension lets you work around the domain names of sites that have been seized by the government and find them at their new alternate or mirrored locations. As we know, the US government has been shutting down a lot of sites lately as part of Operation In Our Sites, meant to discourage things like illegal online gambling, trafficking in counterfeit goods, and illegal file sharing. Mozilla is asking the government for more details on exactly how the extension itself is illegal and has thus far received no response.
