Google announced yesterday that it will soon roll out a feature that crowd sources the Google Maps feature. It’s called Google Map Maker and it lets you contribute new information to the map by adding names and information to points on the map that they know well. And it goes further than that: you can trace out new roads and paths and even outline buildings that have been constructed since the map was last updated. All changes are taken as suggestions and reviewed by other Google map users and appear as pending edits until they’re finally approved and then appear as part of the regular map. This service has been live in many countries around the world for a while where Google’s own mapping resources are more scarce but this will be an American debut.
