Wait, didn’t Microsoft MAKE Internet Explorer 6? Indeed they did but it’s a pretty old product and a really bad one. IE6 was first released back in 2001 and since then has drawn widespread derision for its incredibly flawed security capabilities. It’s considered one of the worst large scale software programs of all time. You could make a case that its failure cleared the way for the rise of Firefox and later Chrome. But IE6 is still being used by 12% of the world, including – get this – 34% of China. Microsoft wants to get that number below 1% globally (currently only Finland and Norway are below that number). So they’ve launched a site called theie6countdown.com to encourage people to do away with what they themselves are admitting is a lousy product.
