Tricycles: they’re not just for toddlers unable to ride bikes anymore. For a while now, Google has employed a set of cameras mounted to three wheeled bicycles in order to take Street View pictures in places that cars can’t reach. Yesterday, Google posted a big new set of some of those images, including the botanical gardens in Dublin and Balboa Park in San Diego. Remarkable images of beautiful places, yes, so that’s lovely, but further evidence that Google’s ongoing effort to map the world will not be limited to drive-by photography. A few weeks ago, Google also launched a sort of Street View equivalent for museums. They will not rest until you can see every square inch of the world on your browser. And then they’ll get to work on the oceans.
