Commercials for the web hosting company GoDaddy are weird enough already (they try to be sexy but just end up hostile and confusing) (insert college girlfriend joke here) but one of their Super Bowl ads last night was even more odd. They announced they would be selling domain names with the suffix .co. Not .com, .co. As in company. But also as in Colombia. The New York Times has a report on many countries fortunate enough to get good, short web suffixes who are making some money off the arrangement. Colombia has .co, Montenegro has .me, Turkmenistan has .tm, and Togo (Togo!) has .to. The codes were assigned way before anyone thought they would mean anything but some nations have made out quite well.
