A huge storm in the eastern U.S. left many travelers stranded at the airports these past few days. Bob Moon talked to The Economist’s Matthew Bishop, who found himself stuck inside an airplane on the runway at JFK for more than 7 hours last night. Oprah Winfrey is set to launch her new cable network this weekend, but it probably will never get as many viewers as her daily talk show does now. Tech stocks for companies like Facebook and Twitter are in high demand, even though they aren’t even public. The international Basel committee is looking into rules that would force banks to disclose how much is getting paid in bonuses, to whom and why. Because Congress’ latest budget only continues the same funding we’ve had in the past year, it doesn’t cover the new reform bills, and the agencies are already feeling the results. Freakonomics’ Stephen Dubner explains why economists don’t shy away from being repugnant. And Mitchell Hartman takes a look back at employment — or lack thereof — from this past year. Here are the songs we played:

  • Crash Years – The New PornographersBuy

  • Good Evening – The ConcretesBuy

  • Intro – The XXBuy

  • Living the Dream – Snailhouse

  • Honey Mine – Korallreven
