One of our colleagues told us about how when you search “Elena Kagan” on Google lately, the autocomplete feature helpfully offers up suggestions about Kagan’s marital status and religion. It does that, of course, based on math. That’s what’s being written about online, that’s what’s being searched. Playing around with autocomplete is a fascinating and sometimes disturbing exercise that reveals what your fellow Googlers are really all about. For instance, type in “why do men” and see what Google offers up (a bit R-rated). Or try the weirder “why don’t women”.
