If all music is going digital, what’s with all these vinyl record shops?

We weren’t ever able to connect with the owner of Vacation Vinyl for our interview today although I really do want to go there next time I’m in Los Angeles. We did talk to Neil Schield who started Origami , another recently-opened vinyl-only record store in LA, with low expectations but says he’s been flooded with customers ever since.

Twitter pal @twojams also pointed us to Deep Groove Vinyl in Richmond, Virginia.

You folks know any other good places for vinyl?

Update: I just talked to Pete from Vacation Vinyl who says that a lot of people running vinyl shops now grew up on traditional record stores and when those went out of business, those kids who used to shop there, now adults, stepped up and started stores of their own.

Another update: I recalled this old phonograph needle shop in Seattle from when I used to live there. Yep. Still there.
