China is trying to do more to make the country more palatable to Westerners during the Olympics. Beijing tourism officials are telling restaurants to discourage orders of dog meat due to the offensive nature of the dish to animal rights activists. According to Xinhuan News Agency, if a diner orders dog, servers should “patiently” suggest other options for the meal. Dog — known as “fragrant meat” in China — is completely off the menu at officially designated Olympic restaurants.

It’s a safer way for China to go for sure, but it’s also not entirely true to say that we never eat our pets. Especially if you own a fish tank.
