Slack is a workplace messaging platform that allows users to communicate with co-workers across the country, share files instantaneously and react to news about free doughnuts with the perfect GIF. Since its launch in 2013, it’s been popularized in workplaces around the country and around the world.

Slack’s corporate headquarters is no exception. Stewart Butterfield, the company’s co-founder and CEO, told “Marketplace” host Kai Ryssdal he’s in “literally thousands” of Slack channels himself. In a conversation back in July, they talked about the future of workplace communication, competition Slack faces from Microsoft and technology’s role in changing human behavior.
