We saw numbers this week from the Pew Research Center that made us wish we’d paid closer attention in science class.

The Pew Research Center recently surveyed 3,278 adults in the U.S to find out how much we know, or don’t know, about science. You can take the interactive quiz here.

We at Marketplace Weekend conducted our own unofficial survey by taking a few of the questions in the quiz and randomly asking strangers on the streets of Downtown L.A. One of the questions:

Which kind of waves are used to make and receive cellphone calls?

Do you know the answer? Lizzie O’Leary talks about why this knowledge is important with Bill Nye. He’s a science educator, comedian, television host, actor, writer, scientist and former mechanical engineer, best known as the host of the Disney/PBS children’s science show “Bill Nye the Science Guy.”

There’s a lot happening in the world.  Through it all, Marketplace is here for you.

You rely on Marketplace to break down the world’s events and tell you how it affects you in a fact-based, approachable way. We rely on your financial support to keep making that possible.

Your donation today powers the independent journalism that you rely on. For just $5/month, you can help sustain Marketplace so we can keep reporting on the things that matter to you.
